Your Lotus Account
What is a Lotus account?
The Lotus Servers that reside in Miriam Hall are the heart of UD's Lotus system. These servers are secure and cannot be accessed without permission. As a UD student or employee, you can gain access to these servers if you have a Lotus account.
When we create a Lotus account for you, a number of things happen:
- A new e-mail address is activated with the format:
- Faculty/Staff: [username]@notes.udayton.edu
- Students: [username]@notes.udayton.edu
- A new mail database is created on a Lotus server for storing mail sent to this new address.
- Attention Lotus Notes Users: A User ID file is created for use with Lotus Notes. This file is stored initially in your person document in UDayton's Address Book. When Lotus Notes is installed for the first time on your computer, this file is moved from the server to your computer's hard drive. This file stores a password (Lotus client password) that you need to open Lotus Notes on your computer.
- A second password is created that will allow you to access information on Lotus servers directly from your WWW browser (i.e. Internet Explorer, Netscape). This password is called your Lotus Internet password.
Requesting a Lotus account
Students
- All UD undergraduate and graduate students already have Lotus accounts.
- Your Lotus username is the same as your LDAP username. Your Lotus Internet password is your original LDAP password. If you have forgotten this password, go to MH 53 and ask for your "Lotus account information."
- The information is printed out on a card. You will need to present your University picture ID in order to receive the information.
- If you do not have Lotus Notes installed on your computer, you can call the UD Help Desk (x9-3888) to arrange an installation appointment or you can install it yourself.
New faculty and staff
- Lotus accounts will be created automatically based on Personnel Action Forms being completed, for all new UD employees.
- To pick up your username and password, please go to Miriam 53 with your University picture ID.
Faculty and staff hired prior to August 15, 2000
- Accounts for UD faculty and staff hired prior to August 15, 2000 are generated upon request. They are not created automatically.
- To register for a Lotus account, please contact the UD Help Desk (x9-3888).
Why do I need a Lotus account?
- Along with providing you with email, a Lotus account allows you to gain access to all of the other information and applications that reside on our Lotus servers.
- The information on our Lotus servers is not limited to e-mail. It also includes threaded discussions for courses, libraries filled with important office or course-related documents, reservation systems for conferences rooms, and many other important applications.
- Aside from Lotus Notes, other Lotus products require Lotus accounts. The same username and password will be needed to access Lotus Sametime, Lotus QuickPlace.
